Tomoo Inaba

Tomoo Inaba is a Japanese independent perfumer, fragrance journalist, and founder of Profice, Japan's largest perfume review portal with over 6,500 reviews.

Raised in Kyushu amid a family garden of fragrant flowers and vegetables, he spent his twenties working as a director of events and exhibitions in Tokyo before leaving the city to return to Kyushu and pursue perfumery full time.

Self-taught through obsessive study of raw materials and by reverse-engineering vintage and masterpiece fragrances, he has visited farmers and distillers across Japan, Grasse, and India.

Japan's strict pharmaceutical regulations make it effectively impossible to release domestic fragrances without significant capital, so his creative output has been channelled through international collaborations.

His credits include Zoologist Nightingale and Moth, and IDEO Parfumeurs.
