Victor Wong came to perfumery from video game design, which explains something about how Zoologist operates: each fragrance is a world-building exercise, built around a specific animal, its habitat, its behaviour, its smell. Wong does not compose the fragrances himself, instead he collaborates with independent perfumers from around the world, which gives the collection genuine range and a consistently high level of craft. No animal products are used; traditional musks are replaced with synthetic alternatives. The result is a house that manages to be conceptually playful and technically serious at the same time, with a cult following among collectors and fragrance enthusiasts who find most niche perfumery too safe.
